Alabama Endovenous Radiofrequency Treatment

Radiofrequency ablation is performed on an outpatient basis in our Birmingham and Montgomery offices under local anesthesia and ultrasound guidance. The physician positions a catheter into the diseased vein through a small opening in the skin. The tiny catheter powered by controlled radiofrequency (RF) energy delivers heat to the vein wall causing the vein to shrink and seal closed. Once the vein is closed, blood is re-routed to other healthy veins. Following the procedure, a simple bandage is placed over the insertion site and the leg is wrapped for additional compression. You are encouraged to walk and most patients resume normal activities that day. You are asked to refrain from strenuous activities for about a week. Compression hose are worn post-operatively for three weeks. *Covered by most insurance providers.
